Coaching is a client led process which looks at where you are today, where you want to get to, and how to get there. Life coaching can cover any area of your life such as: work-life balance, career changes, performance at work, confidence/self-esteem improvements – to name but a few. It is also important to say that coaching is non-judgemental, non-critical and confidential.
What makes coaching work?
When we lead busy lives, it can be hard to identify what your goal is and what needs to change in your life to feel happier or more fulfilled. It can also be hard to find quality time to think these things through! Coaching works because it gives people this quality time and because you come up with solutions – there is no advice handed out. People find this highly motivating as all your results will be entirely down to you! It is my role to clarify goals, motivate you, identify & overcome any barriers to success and any beliefs that may be holding you back.
Do I need to have a very specific goal or issue to work on before the coaching sessions?
People come to coaching because there is something they want to change in their life. Some people do know exactly what they want to be coached on – which is great. BUT… many people are simply unhappy with their life currently, and need help to clarify what they do want and how to move forward.
Is coaching appropriate for anyone and am I ready for coaching?
I strongly believe everyone can benefit from coaching – it can turn your life around, or it can make you even more successful than you already are. You will be ready for coaching if you are willing to commit some time, energy and effort to the sessions as well as the actions you decide to take forward.
Is coaching like counselling or therapy?
No – counselling and therapy involves past-history analysis – and concerns emotional healing. Coaching is task oriented and is concerned with taking action towards your specified goal and you well-being.
How do the coaching sessions work?
Most coaching takes place over the phone, with the client phoning the coach. Some face to face sessions may be possible depending on geography/travel costs.
How should I pick a coach?
Always check a coach's qualifications and experience. Ask for references and speak to recent clients. There is, however, no substitute for speaking to a coach - it is the only way of knowing whether you feel comfortable and confident in their ability.
